When you go bankrupt your credit rating is damaged in such a way that you cannot get loans. However, when you apply to rent a property the property managers will do a series of checks into your past rental history and your employment etc but not your credit history.

Getting approved to rent a house or unit is very different to getting a loan, the focus is did you pay your rent at the last place and can you afford your rent. Generally, you don’t have to provide a copy of your credit file to get the place.

In Australia there are over 60,000 individuals currently bankrupt, I’m confident they all are not living on the street because they cannot get a place to rent. If you are concerned about renting and bankruptcy feel free to give us a call for a free consultation.
